The snow is melting quite quickly now but our igloo is still standing! The door has gone a bit wonky but the roof is still holding (just). Apologies for the photo quality – I authored this post on my iPhone.

It’s all white!
I finally managed to get into work today and found some of my colleagues were about two layers into building an igloo. I helped out and the results can be seen below. Our igloo differed slightly from the traditional type but I was impressed that we managed to create the roof at all. If anyone can think of an igloo related pun let me know as I want one for the title of this post.
I’ve been writing a new photo gallery for the site but it is not ready yet so in the meantime you can find all my snow pictures on flickr. Two of the non-igloo pictures are from Kingswood this morning and the snowman is one I found in a field near our house.
Work news
We had some announcements today at work and I can now say that I work at BBC Research & Development (again).
Kingswood 60th Celebrations
Last Friday there was a big party at Kingswood Warren to celebrate the BBC’s 60th year there. In the day we had a visit from the new director of FM&T and a range of other senior staff who all looked at our technology demonstrations.
At 5pm the presentations were packed away and we began to look to forward to the evening’s party. The weather was excellent and we sat outside enjoying the food provided by the canteen. Me and Jessica took some photos but they all seem to be of people on the bouncy castle! You can see them here.
Announced during the day was that the move of R&I from Kingswood has hit another delay as the new guy finds his feet and re-evaluates decisions made by his predecessors.
Kingswood Christmas Casino
Jessica kindly organised a Christmas party for the club at work – a good time was had by everyone who came which was fantastic as the majority of the people at work were miserable and declared humbug. I donned a (borrowed) dinner jacket and bow-tie and staffed one of the two black jack tables with other games including Roulette and Wii bowling.
The aim of the night was to accumulate more (chocolate) coins than anyone else by gambling on the casino games. Everyone then cashed in their winnings and the top gamblers won a box of chocolates each. The banked casino currency could then be eaten but due to the sheer amount available a lot was taken home too 🙂
Thank you again to Jessica for organising such a great evening.
Happy birthday to me!
Thanks to everyone who has wished my a happy birthday today… I had a good day despite having to go to work. A few members of the team in which I work at the BBC were lucky enough to be recognised at today’s innovation forum and I got the hefty chunk of glass pictured left (it’s one of those clever laser bubbled things).
Me and Jessica have just returned from a lovely Thai meal at Mae Ping. I had the “Crying Tiger” which was steak with an exotic sauce! The special sauce made you go oooh and then aaaagh as the chillis hit. Jessica tried a piece and had exactly the same reaction so I was reassured that I had not found the only chilli bit on the plate. A nice chocolate cake to finish of the day now… 🙂
