Sam’s weigh in

Intelligent babySam is mildly pleased to announce that his new weight has just been measured and he now totals a moderate 6.35 kg (13 lb 15 oz) – so very close to his first stone!

After being weighed the health care lady decided to prescribe some creams for Sam’s dry skin and also gave me a lot of advice on what to do to help his cradle cap – hopefully it clears up quickly ‘coz the new cream I have to put on Sam 3 times a day makes him very, very slippery!

Ruth also came a visited us today. Sam was very happy to make her aquaintance and was all smiles and talking. Ruth was great with Sam, she even gave him his lunch and help me change his nappy! Thanks for visiting Ruth and thanks also for the lovely ducks I will Sam will be sure to play with them lots in the bath.

The photo of Sam on the left is of him having a sneaky look through one of Rich’s engineer magazines…!

Goodbye Fidget

FidgetI’m very sad to announce that Fidget has finally scampered off to a better place.

She had been ill for about 3 months after catching an ear infection that later spread to her brain. Over these months she got increasingly frail and recently seemed to stop looking after herself altogether. Rich and I were starting to think that we would have to take her to the vet for what would most likely be her final visit but before we could do that she passed away at home.

We are both very glad to have had little Fidget in our lives and will always think of her fondly. She was such a lovely and gentle hamster who was always curious and very, very daft. Thanks for the last two years Fidget – I hope that you enjoyed spending them with us as much as we enjoyed having you around.

Rich has put up some footage of Fidget from when we were living in our old flat – go and have  a look see at what a daft hamster she was.

Fidget dies

Sadly I have to announce that today Fidget came to the end of her two year life. She hasn’t been herself since an ear infection spread to her brain a couple of months ago. We don’t think she was suffering a great deal of pain as she wasn’t squeaking. I’ve found this footage of Fidget as we’ll remember her – a very inquisitive little hamster.

Messy baby

Messy SamToday Sam had his first taste of ‘solid’ food. You can see him here trying out a bit of baby rice and from his expression you can tell he really doesn’t know what to make of it.

We managed to hold out on starting weaning him until now, though it has been tricky as he seemed to be getting increasingly hungry and fascinated when watching Rich and I eat our meals. What finally gave us the push to start the process was seeing Sam imitate our chewing – very, very funny 🙂

The baby rice mostly ended up all over Sam’s nice bib, but hopefully he gets the hang of swallowing soon. Then I’m going to have to get myself busy in the kitchen making up pureed baby food – any ideas of what I should try?

Feeling better

Hi,

It’s been a while since I’ve posted because me and Jessica have been suffering from a cowardly stomach bug. First it got Jessica and then a week later it got me too. Anyway, I’m finally eating proper meals again and am well on my way to almost full (we do have a young child) capacity.

What are you looking at?

What are you looking at?

Speaking of Sam, we tried to start the weaning process today by giving him a bit of baby rice. He has been taking a great interest in the eating habits of his parents and will sit there in shocked silence whilst we consume a meal. Lately he has taken to ‘chewing’ whilst out in the buggy or lay in his cot and we can only assume he is imititating us.

So, we decided to try the baby rice, but did he chew when we gave it to him… of course he didn’t. He accepted the rice into his mouth and then waited for it to fall out again which can clearly be seen in the picture. We’ll keep trying and I’m sure he’ll get the hang of it soon. I had expected a little bit more from this milestone but hopefully he’ll start to play with the food more and will be doing better next weekend.

Aunty Cara and ‘Funkle’ Nick

Rich is feeling much better now, he ended up taking most of last week off work as he was just too ill to make it in and struggled back on Friday only to do a short day before coming back home and needing to crash. Hopefully he is over the worst of it now and will be back to his old self soon.

Because of this we had to rethink our potential evening off (Cara and Nick had very kindly offered to look after Sam for the evening so that we could go out together) and we just had Cara and Nick round to visit instead. We all still had fun and Rich is definitely feeling more himself as he has come up with ‘Funkle’ for Nick as a shortening for ‘Future Uncle’.

Thanks for the visit Cara and Nick, hopefully we’ll get to take you up on your babysitting offer some time soon 🙂
