Igloo

The snow is melting quite quickly now but our igloo is still standing! The door has gone a bit wonky but the roof is still holding (just). Apologies for the photo quality – I authored this post on my iPhone.

A very icy walk

Tea and crochetAfter 3 days of being snowed in at Tea Towers I was getting slightly desperate to get out and do something so Sam and I bravely ventured out. I spent about half an hour struggling to get the pushchair over the icy/snowy pavements fighting the whole time with the wheels that could only skid over the ice or get stuck in drifts of snow. We finally arrived at the baby group only to have to turn back as it had been closed due to the adverse weather conditions. Ah well.

Another half hour of careful trudging back as well as a quick stop in to the local Co-op at least meant that when we arrived home we appreciated it’s warmth. After a couple of lovely hot cups of tea and some relaxing time crocheting while Sam slept I now feel much more human and I think in the future I’ll just appreciate this weather from the comfort of the sofa.

It’s all white!

I finally managed to get into work today and found some of my colleagues were about two layers into building an igloo. I helped out and the results can be seen below. Our igloo differed slightly from the traditional type but I was impressed that we managed to create the roof at all. If anyone can think of an igloo related pun let me know as I want one for the title of this post.

I’ve been writing a new photo gallery for the site but it is not ready yet so in the meantime you can find all my snow pictures on flickr. Two of the non-igloo pictures are from Kingswood this morning and the snowman is one I found in a field near our house.

Snowy days

Snowy RichYesterday you may have noticed a little snow out your window… well we got some at Tea Towers too! Because of there being no trains, trams or buses Rich had both today and yesterday off from work and so got to be snowed in with Sam and me. The snow is the deepest that I have seen it for at least 15 years and it is still covering everything in sight turning our road and garden into a much prettier world.

Sam seems to have had a bit of a cold so we thought it best to keep him tucked up in the warmth of the house and he is now (after a lot more sleep than usual) starting to feel better and more chirpy. So I’ve not been out much either, instead I’ve been sending Rich off to gather supplies (all the local shops seem to be selling out of the essentials here). Sadly Rich will probably be back to work tomorrow so Sam and I will have to fend for ourselves again, it’s been great to have him home though and Sam has certainly enjoyed his death-defying flying rides…Flying Sam

Rich has also been busy in the kitchen making a batch of delicious millionaire’s shortbread. Unfortunately this batch will have to be consumed by only Rich and myself as the caramel in the middle didn’t set quite right and so gets all over your hands, face, clothes, small baby when you try to eat a piece. Ah well – we’ll just have solider through the batch by ourselves ๐Ÿ™‚

We’ve had a bit of a Fidget related scare this weekend. On Sunday we Millionaire's shortbreadnoticed that Fidget was having real trouble walking , she seemed to somehow have twisted herself and she was holding her head sideways. She seemed only able to walk in circles and fell over a great deal. Thankfully she seems to be on the mend and has improved much over these two days, she is still pretty unsteady but otherwise seems quite happy and wanting to be out and about. Fidget is now 2 years old and I’m going to have to start getting myself ready for when she is no longer with us, but until then I’m determined to enjoy her company as much as possible.

More snow

Stuck at home today – I think a lot of BBC staff are attempting to use the remote access software and as a result it isn’t letting me in ๐Ÿ™

There are some advantages though – the view from my desk is much better.

It’s snow joke

Had to use the pun on the blog – Jessica has forbidden me from using them in the house until Samuel is old enough to groan in dismay. Just wanted to upload this picture I took from an upstairs window… I don’t fancy my chances of getting to work tomorrow.

Samโ€™s weigh in

Bouncy SamSam’s latest weigh in results are just in and I’m happy to tell all you eager readers that Sam has reached a total weight ofย  5.7kg (11lb 3oz).

Yesterday Sam and I wandered round to visit a local friend for lunch. Being a lady of leisure is starting to have some advantages – I think I quite like being able to meet up with a friend to eat some very tasty chinese chicken followed up with a slice of rich chocolate cake. Sam was very well behaved and cooed happily while us ladies chatted away and after being much admired he had a quick nap on a bean bag. More trips out like this would be fantastic – anyone interested in inviting us round?

In the evening I tried out a new yoga class but unfortunately was a little disappointed by the style (a bit more mystical than I’m comfortable with) and found the teacher to be slightly useless. Hopefully I’ll find a decent class that I can join soon as I really need to start getting back in shape as I’m so tired of wearing maternity clothes and at some point in May I need to fit into a dress again…

Trip out to Kent

Katie, Thea & SamRich and I are gradually gaining confidence in taking Sam out for longer journeys to visit friends and family. Today we decided to trek off over to Kent to visit Sam’s aunty Thea, uncle Marcus and cousin Katie.

Marcus did us a fantastic Sunday roast dinner (my plate was overflowing with delicious pork, yorkshire puds, roast potatoes, boiled potatoes, parsnips, cabbage and succulent carrots) and that was followed by some very tasty pancakes made by my sister. Mmmmmm….

After food we all waddled into the sitting room to try and burn off some of the dinner with a few goes at the surprisingly difficult ‘Guitar hero’ game on the Wii. I was typically bad at the game (but I blame that on forgetting to bring along my glasses) however Rich seemed to do really well even though he was so casual about it. Katie also had a few goes and looked like a very cute rockstar holding the guitar.

Sam enjoyed seeing everyone again and had fun playing with Katie who was very gentle with him and kept tucking him up ‘in bed’.
