Surprise!

img_0005Sam seems quite surprised to be wearing a Christmas vest in February… but that’s what happens when you are a difficult size and mum has run out of clean clothes that fit you.

Sam and I had another busy day yesterday, baby group in the morning and then a visit from Sam’s grandma in the afternoon. My mum and I had a lovely lunch (and I even got out my pretty tea set) while Sam cooed and watched us eating and chatting. After all this attention though he did spend most of the evening asleep which gave me enough time to do a bit of sorting and tidying in preparation for our trip up north.

So tomorrow the family Felton is heading off to Northland for our most ambitious journey with Sam yet. I’m not too sure how it is all going to work out (will Sam sleep on the train, will there be room for all the luggage, etc) but I’m really looking forward to spending some time with the lovely in-laws and getting a chance to show Sam off.

Wish us luck – we’ll be back soon and will hopefully have some more Sam pictures to show you.

Sam’s weigh in

Talkative SamSam is happy to be able to inform you that he now weighs an impressive 5.37kg (11lb 13 oz).

(The photo on the left is one one of the lovely shoots that Duncan managed to take of Sam on Sunday)

Fidget update:

Rich and I have been pretty worried about Fidget recently – last week she seemed to be twisted with her head tilted to one side and she fell over a lot. Because of being snowed in we didn’t take her to the vet and she seemed to recover on her own. However, on Monday night Rich saw Fidget having some sort of fit so on Tuesday we both took her to the vets expecting to hear the worst. Thankfully the vet seems to think that Fidget has an inner ear infection which is hopefully going to clear up after a week of antibiotics (if only she would drink it – naughty hamster!)

In other news I tried another yoga class last night and found it to be much better than the one I went to a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully after a few months of yoga I’ll be in much better shape and maybe even be able to squeeze myself into my old clothes again!

A busy weekend

Blurry SamSam was in great demand this weekend what with two separate dinner invitations for Saturday and Sunday. Sam’s first outing was on Saturday to visit aunt Cara and future uncle Nick and view their shiny new kitchen. Cara and Nick provided Sam’s mum and dad with some very tasty adult food which included some fantastic melt in the middle chocolate puds served with some very yummy home made ice cream – mmmmm.

Apart from a minor screaming fit when we first arrived Sam was in fine spirits and greatly enjoyed watching his parents having a go at the Raving Rabbits game on the Wii. While Sam was happy Nick took the chance to snap some photos with his impressive camera so hopefully some of his shoots will have come out and we’ll have some better quality photos of Sam.img_2012

On Sunday we hastened over to visit Matt and Steve at their flat as Steve was cooking up a large beef joint and needed some extra stomachs to help put it away (I’m always glad to help with such matters). Duncan also came over and was full of stories about his recent trip to New Zeland and brought along photos from his first ever sky dive. We all ate very well, the beef was delicious and came with all the trimmings and for dessert we had ‘chocolate eruptions’ which sounded very complicated to make but looked fantastic when they came out of the oven slowly oozing chocolate sauce from their tops (and  they tasted great too). Duncan also took some Sam shoots with his impressive camera so hopefully he’ll send us a few more photos of Sam that we can share with you all soon.

The photo on the right is the only picture that we got of Nick and Sam from the weekend… don’t you think that Nick looks like he thinks Sam is about to explode at any moment? Caption suggestions anyone?

A very icy walk

Tea and crochetAfter 3 days of being snowed in at Tea Towers I was getting slightly desperate to get out and do something so Sam and I bravely ventured out. I spent about half an hour struggling to get the pushchair over the icy/snowy pavements fighting the whole time with the wheels that could only skid over the ice or get stuck in drifts of snow. We finally arrived at the baby group only to have to turn back as it had been closed due to the adverse weather conditions. Ah well.

Another half hour of careful trudging back as well as a quick stop in to the local Co-op at least meant that when we arrived home we appreciated it’s warmth. After a couple of lovely hot cups of tea and some relaxing time crocheting while Sam slept I now feel much more human and I think in the future I’ll just appreciate this weather from the comfort of the sofa.

Snowy days

Snowy RichYesterday you may have noticed a little snow out your window… well we got some at Tea Towers too! Because of there being no trains, trams or buses Rich had both today and yesterday off from work and so got to be snowed in with Sam and me. The snow is the deepest that I have seen it for at least 15 years and it is still covering everything in sight turning our road and garden into a much prettier world.

Sam seems to have had a bit of a cold so we thought it best to keep him tucked up in the warmth of the house and he is now (after a lot more sleep than usual) starting to feel better and more chirpy. So I’ve not been out much either, instead I’ve been sending Rich off to gather supplies (all the local shops seem to be selling out of the essentials here). Sadly Rich will probably be back to work tomorrow so Sam and I will have to fend for ourselves again, it’s been great to have him home though and Sam has certainly enjoyed his death-defying flying rides…Flying Sam

Rich has also been busy in the kitchen making a batch of delicious millionaire’s shortbread. Unfortunately this batch will have to be consumed by only Rich and myself as the caramel in the middle didn’t set quite right and so gets all over your hands, face, clothes, small baby when you try to eat a piece. Ah well – we’ll just have solider through the batch by ourselves 🙂

We’ve had a bit of a Fidget related scare this weekend. On Sunday we Millionaire's shortbreadnoticed that Fidget was having real trouble walking , she seemed to somehow have twisted herself and she was holding her head sideways. She seemed only able to walk in circles and fell over a great deal. Thankfully she seems to be on the mend and has improved much over these two days, she is still pretty unsteady but otherwise seems quite happy and wanting to be out and about. Fidget is now 2 years old and I’m going to have to start getting myself ready for when she is no longer with us, but until then I’m determined to enjoy her company as much as possible.

Sam’s weigh in

Bouncy SamSam’s latest weigh in results are just in and I’m happy to tell all you eager readers that Sam has reached a total weight of  5.7kg (11lb 3oz).

Yesterday Sam and I wandered round to visit a local friend for lunch. Being a lady of leisure is starting to have some advantages – I think I quite like being able to meet up with a friend to eat some very tasty chinese chicken followed up with a slice of rich chocolate cake. Sam was very well behaved and cooed happily while us ladies chatted away and after being much admired he had a quick nap on a bean bag. More trips out like this would be fantastic – anyone interested in inviting us round?

In the evening I tried out a new yoga class but unfortunately was a little disappointed by the style (a bit more mystical than I’m comfortable with) and found the teacher to be slightly useless. Hopefully I’ll find a decent class that I can join soon as I really need to start getting back in shape as I’m so tired of wearing maternity clothes and at some point in May I need to fit into a dress again…

Trip out to Kent

Katie, Thea & SamRich and I are gradually gaining confidence in taking Sam out for longer journeys to visit friends and family. Today we decided to trek off over to Kent to visit Sam’s aunty Thea, uncle Marcus and cousin Katie.

Marcus did us a fantastic Sunday roast dinner (my plate was overflowing with delicious pork, yorkshire puds, roast potatoes, boiled potatoes, parsnips, cabbage and succulent carrots) and that was followed by some very tasty pancakes made by my sister. Mmmmmm….

After food we all waddled into the sitting room to try and burn off some of the dinner with a few goes at the surprisingly difficult ‘Guitar hero’ game on the Wii. I was typically bad at the game (but I blame that on forgetting to bring along my glasses) however Rich seemed to do really well even though he was so casual about it. Katie also had a few goes and looked like a very cute rockstar holding the guitar.

Sam enjoyed seeing everyone again and had fun playing with Katie who was very gentle with him and kept tucking him up ‘in bed’.

4 year date-a-versary

img_18564 years gone by already!

These years have really flown past and have definitely been the best years of my life so far. We’ve done so much together already and now we have baby Sam it seems like we are starting on a whole new part of our life.

Thank you sweetheart for being the best boyfriend & husband that I could ever have wished for 🙂

A trip to the theatre

Dick BartonThis evening I got the chance to join a group of work friends on a trip out to the Warehouse theatre in Croydon (Rich very kindly stayed home with Sam so that I could go). We started out by having a very tasty dinner in the lovely ‘Anna’s Thai’ restaurant (because Rich couldn’t come I made sure to have his favourite dish as it wouldn’t have been right going there without one of us ordering it). We then all dashed off to the theatre and made it there just in time to get a seat before the show started.

Dick Barton used to be a radio show produced by the BBC which is now long forgotten by most people apart from the good residents of Croydon who have been lucky enough to see some of the theatre productions done by the Warehouse which are loosely based on the original show. The productions are incredibly daft and full of bad jokes and silly songs as well as having the strangest story lines possible.

The Warehouse theatre stopped being able to do Dick Barton productions a few years ago due to the BBC refusing to give it permission to use the Dick Barton name. So for the last couple of years we have had ‘Young Dick Barton’ instead which gets around the permission problem. I loved the show (which I think is the 4th or 5th Dick Barton production that I’ve seen) and highly recommend it to everyone, so if you can still get a ticket be sure to go along.

A busy day…

bathtime_samSam and I were very happy to receive a visit from our good friend ‘future uncle Nick’ who popped over for lunch with a freshly baked loaf of bread that he had made himself (properly made at that – he did all his dough thumping himself, no use of a bread maker!). We ate Dairylea sandwiches, crisps and carrot cake and drank lots of tasty tea.

Unfortunately Sam got himself into quite a temper for some reason and so wasn’t his usual friendly self for the visit (sorry Nick) so to help calm him down we went off in search of a nearby pond. Because I was the one navigating us to it we wandered around aimlessly and didn’t manage to find it until Nick took control and lead us there (it worries me that my navigation is so bad as to be bested by someone who has no idea where he is going but still manages to find what I’ve been trying to get to). Sam calmed down/slept after his nice walk and by the time daddy came home he was in a much better mood.

Because of his general cuteness this evening we decided it was time for him to have his first go in the big bath (he’s been getting a little large for the bathroom sink) and you can see him pictured here getting into the bathing mood with the help of our bath thermometer duck. Sam doesn’t quite know what to make of the big bath but we think he enjoyed himself in a slightly surprised way.
